For most of us, the holidays are a time to relax in the good company of family and friends! Many children are also eagerly awaiting a visit from Santa Claus which means it’s a perfect time to introduce the phrase hohowa pyaaci! ‘Santa is coming!’

Since Santa says “hohoho!” so much we figured that was the perfect onomatopoeia for his name!
Be sure to use this with family and friends to get them excited for Santa’s visit.

Try out some of these sentences as you’re waiting:

šaaye-nko kiila? hohowa pyaaci.
‘Are you ready? Santa is coming’

kinšimi kati hohowa pyaaci.
‘Santa is coming soon’

hohowa pyaaci. keetwi kati miilihki?
‘Santa is coming. What is he going to get you?’

When you’re leaving cookies out, remember to add ooniini hohowa ‘here, Santa’!

Don’t forget to check out the Myaamia Online Dictionary for the audio!

nipwaahkaako neehi peehkhkanaweeko! ‘Be safe and safe travels!’
