Are you interested in learning the Myaamia language? Have you been wanting to start using it in your home with your family? If you want to take the first step, you might consider Intro to Myaamiaataweenki, a 6-week course intended to give you an introduction to the language.
Join us on Monday evenings at 7:30 p.m. via Zoom to play language games and practice Myaamiaataweenki together. We will spend time learning how to greet each other and introduce ourselves as well as learning basic survival language such as ‘what did you say?’ or ‘say that again’. Once we get comfortable with those we learn how to give and receive things and finally, we end with parting terms such as ‘see you later’.
If you feel intimidated or hesitant, don’t worry! We will start simple and help you feel confident as we build up your knowledge and understanding. As a community, we want to work together to ensure all Myaamiaki have the chance to practice our language in an inclusive space. Bring a friend or family member to sit in and take the course with you, it’s always better with more people!
Intro to Myaamiaataweenki is designed for our adult language learners, ages 18 and older. We have additional programs available during the summer, both in-person and virtually, designed for participants of all ages. Keep an eye on our social media and community blog for more information on these learning opportunities.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me, ciinkwia (Jarrid Baldwin), at baldwijw@miamioh.edu.
If you would like to get your feet wet before the class, go to the language section of the community blog and read the introduction and the variety of articles we have added over the years.
hoping you also dual post this as an “event” so I get reminders.
